A walking tour of the selected stadia with a knowledgeable guide.
There are world class stadia in Johannesburg that have wonderful sporting tales to tell. I think it is time we told these stories – to local sports fans as well as sports-loving visitors from abroad! This one-day tour is offered to tour companies, corporates and individuals who specialise in, and are interested in, sport and sports history.
While the exact arrangements and timings may change, the basics of this one-day tour is as follows:
08.30: Pick up from hotels or guest houses (or meet at a central point) and proceed to Ellis Park where the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final took place. Guests will spend 2 hours on a conducted tour of the Rugby Museum, stadium and its facilities.
11.30: Proceed to FNB Stadium where the 2010 Football World Cup Final took place. Guests will spend 1,5 hours on a conducted tour
of the stadium and its facilities.
13.00: Lunch at the Wanderers Club in Illovo.
14.30: Proceed to the Wanderers Stadium – venue of the 2003 Cricket World Cup Final as well as the famous “438” match between South Africa and Australia – on 12 March 2006. Guests will spend 1,5 hours on a conducted tour of the stadium and its facilities.
There are options for only one or two stadia to be visited, if desired. Obviously, stadia have to be available on the selected day to be visited. The rugby museum at Ellis Park is a virtually unknown gem that has to be seen to be believed!!
Negotiations are also in an advanced stage with Supersport Park and Loftus Versfeld to create a two-stadium tour in Pretoria (and a visit to Fanie de Villiers’ cricket museum at his home). This will also enable us to offer a bespoke rugby tour (Ellis Park and Loftus Versfeld) and cricket tour (the Wanderers and Supersport Park.
This is a wonderful tour for anybody – particularly school and club teams (of any sporting code) – visiting Gauteng to spend the day in unique and historical surroundings!!
NOTE: Transport and Lunch can be arranged at an extra cost
Bathroom | Family friendly | Free parking | Site Guide | Wheelchair friendly | Ten years old and up.
Timeslots – Entirely dependent on the particular tour group and the availability of the stadia.
